Meaning and Practice of Yoga Asanas

The word Yoga literally means “becoming One”.

Unfortunately this deep meaning seems to have been lost in the Western world and yoga has come to mean the asanas, which are just the physical exercises.

Originally yoga is a spiritual path, a spiritual way of living based on ethics. Asanas were not part of Yoga in the beginning. Only later they were introduced as instruments within the Yoga tradition.

In the Yoga of Nâm, which we call LivingNâm, we do not use asanas because we work with different, very powerful, instruments that stand alone. In that sense, the yoga asanas from the yoga classes are not part of LivingNâm. However, it can be helpful to use the body as a bridge or gateway to a meditative state. Especially if you realise that we have no experiences, but exist as experience, of which the body is a part.

Working towards a specific state of mind that we can call a meditative state is what counts and asanas can be a preparation for this. This is the meaning we want to give to the yoga asanas taught in Asharum Amonines and therefore these retreats are always a combination of asanas and meditation. In view of this it can be supportive to be in silence during (part of) your stay.

AshaMeditation and HarpMood

Part of the programme are the two daily meditations of the Asharum, called Asha meditation and HarpMood.
In the Asha meditation, a regular rhythm is maintained for the first fifteen minutes, combined with a rattle and voice, in preparation for the state of silence in the second fifteen minutes.
In the evening the meditation consists of a HarpMood. The mystic Yoginâm plays the harp as a means of communication. It is not a harmonious musical entertainment, the sounds go beyond the mind and connect with your soul. If you adopt an attitude of openness, you can experience its benefits.

Quiet down and connect in full attention

Yoga in combination with AshaMeditation and Active Service is a wonderful way to quiet down and connect in full attention. Getting the yoga exercises (asanas) and meditation skills explained in a subtle and clear way lead to relaxation and experiencing beneficial space in body and mind.
If you need inner peace to return with more clarity, this yoga retreat is for you.

Daily rhythm in which you can choose to participate:

  • 08.00 Yoga class (75 minutes)
  • 09:15 Breakfast
  • 10:00 Asha meditation (30 minutes)
  • 14:00 Warm lunch
  • 17:00 Yoga class (75 minutes)
  • 19:00 HarpMood (30 minutes approximately)
  • 20:00 Supper

The first yoga class is always the morning after the day of arrival in order for you to arrive in a calm manner.
The programme ends on the last day with the AshaMeditation at 10 am.
The cost of this retreat is € 95, – per day
and includes full board, meals, yoga and meditations.

This Yoga retreat will be guided by yoga teacher Katelijn

Katelijn has a background as a yoga teacher in critical alignment yoga. In her lessons she has a personal approach in attunement with where you are at the moment. She challenges you to look beyond your own beliefs and sees the body as a gateway or bridge to a meditative state.

Comments:

The way in which Katelijn guides you through the exercises is very subtle and with great effect. Her words speak to the imagination and at the same time have a very direct influence and effect on the physical experience.
Machteld, April 2019

I am really impressed with the yoga classes and the clear and interesting explanation.  The personal attention makes it very special. I will definitely join again next time!

The effect of the yoga classes is still present, it’s as if I view the world differently and more positively, I have exactly lost my luggage from the past months.
Evy, March 2022

Please check the calendar before you book your yoga retreat through the ‘book now’ button, since only when Katelijn is available these retreats can be given. Only book this retreat according to availability in this calendar.
